Medical Update

Volume 41

January-February 2018

Numbers 1-2

The reason you did not receive a Proclaimer in January is because of the following:

On December 21, 2017 I was rushed to the Emergency Room of UF HEALTH NORTH Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida (a new Hospital that opened July 2017, which is a branch of UF HEALTH DOWNTOWN known here in Jacksonville as SHANDS) due to pain down my left arm coming from my left shoulder.

Upon arrival, I was diagnosed with fever and a blood infection. The ER medical staff conducted a total of four tests. I was admitted immediately, and began four weeks of I.V. antibiotics.

On December 28, I was transferred to UF HEALTH DOWNTOWN for a further test called “TEE”. It involved an Endoscopy type Echo to check the back side of the heart valves for infection. It was negative thankfully. If it had been positive, it would have meant six weeks of antibiotics.

I remained downtown until sent home on January 2, 2018 for Home Health. I remained on  I.V. antibiotics until January 18, completing the four-week protocol. I will insert here our three sons were indispensable in their help. Thanks boys! (And yes, they are still boys!)

During a home health visit on January 10, 2018 my Home Health nurse sent me immediately back to UF HEALTH NORTH with a heart rate of 140 BPM (Normal: 60–100 BPM). Medicines the medical staff tried to bring my heart rate down were unsuccessful. So I was moved back downtown to SHANDS for Cardiac Care, where they performed another "TEE" test. On January 17, a successful Ablation was performed. On January 18, I was moved to SHANDS REHABILITATION until sent home on January 26, 2018.

A prescribed visit with my Primary Care Doctor on January 30, 2018 put me in Baptist Hospital, Jacksonville for three days due to dehydration. I was successfully hydrated after three days on I.V.’s. I returned home on February 2, 2018 to continue Home Health. At present I am still very weak but gaining strength each day.

My dear wife (Peggy) has written all of the above, for which I am grateful. Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer and giving. You are dearly loved by this preacher.
